Black hair is political in North America and in the West generally.  For black people, through the years, hair has been the subject of scorn and a lot of misunderstanding. Some black people don’t even know how to manage their own hair. The mindset needed to understand and care for kinky hair is such that is required to look after a baby. It takes time and patience to understand our hair.

In this episode, Tee talks to Nilo about black hair, black hair products and how she balances her eco-system of creativity.

Working with a strong team and a diverse group of creatives, NiLo has helped to build an eco-system of events and media that reflects the experiences of black Canadians. NiLo is a Natural Hair-care Specialist by trade and has her own brand of small batched, plant-based hair and skin care products called Afrodisiac Naturals and also owns Edmonton’s only exclusive natural hair shop: Afrodisiac Natural Shop. Her clients help to inspire her work, which also includes Melanistic Magazine’s Marketing Manager, The Black Multiverse Theory Podcast Co-host and Producer and even inspired her two children’s books, Harriet’s Humongous Hair and Harriet’s Tremendous Day. In her free time NiLo is Band Leader of Afrodisiac Mass Band and plays percussion for Bliss Band.
