Monamie Resto on ECF sponsored YEGEATS
We stumbled on Monamie Resto, a northeast Edmonton multicultural restaurant by watching the Edmonton Community Foundation sponsored YEG Eats. They are located at 13247 Ford Rd NW, Edmonton, AB T5A 1C6. YEG Eats is a brand new video series that brings you into the kitchens of Edmonton’s BIPOC-owned restaurants.
The owner, Margaret Bello Amedume was inspired by her own customers to keep on serving and cooking every day during the pandemic in spite of the hardships and challenges. She spoke to Tomi Okunuga telling him she cooks
mainly African dishes: Nigerian, Ghanaian and Sierra Leonean. She also caters to Caribbean customers as a multicultural restaurant. Okunnuga felt that BIPOC owned restaurants needed more visibility in the pandemic. The YEG Eats series featured eight restaurants in Edmonton including Monamie Resto.
MonAmie Restaurant has been in business for over 15 years. According to the website, they migrated from Toronto, Ontario to Edmonton, Alberta. They specialise in cooking West and East African cuisines.
She recommends her jollof rice with assorted beef and plantain. The food is fresh and not precooked. Everything she cooks is fresh.
