An Entire City Mourns Edmonton’s heart Adrienne Pan

Spread the love

“For this God is our God forever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death”.

Psalm 48:14

He will swallow up death in victory, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.

Isaiah 25:8

My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever.                                                                                           Psalm 73:26

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,  nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8: 38-39

We were very shocked to learn about the transition of CBC Radio Active presenter Adrienne Pan yesterday. Adrienne had hosted Radio Active since 2018, she died on Saturday morning after a long battle with cancer. She was 43 years old.

When we launched our first magazine in 2019,  we were interviewed by Adrienne and we remember the day clearly: her questions were kind and thoughtful. We remember how she made us feel: comfortable and relaxed. The media chat had been facilitated by Thandi Konguavi.

Adrienne was our friend and companion. She kept us company as we made our way home on our evening commute. Many times, she articulated what we were thinking. She made us listen for the three hours she was on. It was her voice and her laugh that kept you listening on. She gave us something to look forward to.

She made CBC Radio Active ours.

She made us feel like we belonged. She was very good at communicating. She communicated something to Edmontonians and that is what we are remembering her for. Her death is difficult to deal with. Edmonton will miss their star.

CBC Edmonton announced her passing and they spent yesterday remembering radio gold moments with Adrienne. Listening, it was hard. Our heartfelt condolences go to her husband, her colleagues at the CBC and her friends.

She was a gem and she left us too soon.

Here are some of the comments on Twitter:

Sean Reynolds Worked with Adrienne the 1st 5 yrs of my career, 1st at Global then CBC. She mentored me, helping me land the late night gig she vacated moving home to EDM. She was tough, fair, fierce & the best damn foodie I knew. I admire her deeply & miss her already.

@ryanjespersenAn entire city mourns@Adrienne_Pan’s passing. She was talented, empathetic, insightful, and articulate. Adrienne was a supportive friend, and a class act. My deepest condolences and much love to her family, friends, and colleagues.
@AmarjeetSohiYEG: I had the honour of being interviewed by Adrienne Pan several times, and her impact on our city has been profound. Adrienne had a true gift for storytelling – she identified social issues and used her platform to amplify voices that needed to be heard each and every day.
It takes a lot to trend above weather in Edmonton. And that speaks to Adrienne Pan, whose kindness and dedication shone through on both TV and radio. Our city is lesser with her loss.
Rest in Peace, Adrienne Pan, you will always be remembered as Edmonton’s star.
