Zahra Somani, Board Chair of the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF), announced that Martin Garber-Conrad would be retiring from his position as Chief Executive Officer effective June 30, 2022.

The Edmonton Community Foundation supports the people of Edmonton and area by encouraging philanthropy and funding charitable activities. This is accomplished through an endowment model that assembles and administers permanent pools of capital, and the returns are perpetually reinvested in the community.

Martin has held the position of the Foundation’s CEO since February 1, 2005. In that time, he and his team have stewarded outstanding growth of the organization’s assets to more than $700 million.

The ECF yearly grants in the range of $30 million to organizations in health, education, human services, arts, culture and heritage, sports and recreation and the environment.

ECF has also championed philanthropic innovation by creating the Social Enterprise Fund, Edmonton and Area Land Trust and the Edmonton Community Development Company.

“The ECF board is grateful for Martin’s contributions to the organization and our community. Martin has demonstrated unfailing commitment and leadership over the last seventeen years and has been instrumental in the significant success of the ECF. We appreciate his vast contributions and wish him all the best in his future endeavours”, shared Somani.

The board has launched a national search for the next CEO. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Tricia Mullen, search consultant with Gallagher (formerly Optimum Talent), at tricia_mullen@ajg.com.

Ladies Corner Canada Media is exceptionally grateful for the attention – our small but mighty organization – have been given by Edmonton Community Foundation.

Last year, at the peak of our struggles,  ECF took a chance on us. They saw beyond our present and into our future of capturing BIPOC issues and stories.

We will remain forever indebted to Martin for his leadership and vision for a new and emerging Edmonton.
