Calgary Centre for Newcomers

Newcomers to Canada sometimes face challenges in pursuing life and career goals due to a lack of connections and resources. The Calgary Centre for Newcomers meets this challenge through research and operating programs aimed at providing language instruction, job search and settlement assistance.

The government’s investment in the Calgary Centre for Newcomers will go towards a facility upgrade that doubles its usable space to 50,000 square feet. The upgrade will help the centre to expand its life and career skills programs for new Canadians, helping them succeed in Alberta’s vibrant and growing economy. It will also create a community hub by housing 150 partner agencies and community groups.

Through CFEP, eligible non-profits can access financial assistance to acquire, build, purchase, repair, renovate, upgrade or expand sports, recreational, cultural or other related public-use community facilities.

This renovated site with various agencies will significantly improve the ability of newcomers to access settlement and related services, saving time and resources for these vulnerable populations as well as service providers.

“Newcomers to Alberta rely on organizations to help them take their first steps toward success. I’m pleased that the Community Facility Enhancement Program provides grants to help newcomer organizations upgrade, redevelop, acquire and build first rate facilities that benefit the entire community.”

Muhammad Yaseen, Associate Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism
