Grande Prairie to host 2024 Alberta Games
Sports play an integral role in the mental and physical well-being of youth across our province, and that is why Alberta’s government is proud to support any opportunity for young people to return to play.
Alberta’s government will provide a $420,000 operating grant to the host society to support the 2024 Alberta Winter Games. The Games are expected to generate about $3 million in economic benefits for the Grande Prairie region.
The Alberta Winter Games the province’s premier multi-sport event for Alberta’s youth for the enhancement of sports development.
The Alberta Games generally involve approximately 2500 – 2800 athletes, coaches and officials from across the provinces.
Hosting the Alberta Games is community effort.
A volunteer force of approximately 1500 – 2000 volunteers is required to stage the Alberta Games.
Athletes will qualify to compete in the Alberta Winter Games through playoff/selection camps. These competitions happen approx 6 months prior to the start of the games.
