Africa Centre proudly announces the Unleashing Potential: A Black Entrepreneurship Summit in Alberta, a transformative two-day free event aimed at breaking down barriers and fostering economic empowerment for the province’s growing African-descent business community.

The summit is designed to catalyze entrepreneurs of African descent by providing a platform for learning, networking, and collaboration. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities, including workshops and panel discussions, and hear several keynote addresses from the provinces’ experienced business community and policymakers.

“By addressing the significant gaps often faced by African descent businesses, including limited resources, systemic challenges, and the need for greater representation, this summit is a proactive initiative by our organization that aims to create solutions and is designed to create lasting connections that extend far beyond the summit itself,” says Sam Juru, Africa Centre’s executive director.

This two-day event is designed to create lasting connections that extend far beyond the summit itself. The agenda is carefully curated to address key aspects of entrepreneurship, from resource diversification to leadership development and sustainable operations.

“In January 2023, Africa Centre and Prairies Economic Development Canada conducted the first-ever study on Black Entrepreneurship in Alberta, dedicated to uncovering challenges and fostering new opportunities, said Kojo B Otoo, Africa Centre’s senior manager of entrepreneurial engagement.

“Today, as we apply these findings, the significance of the Calgary summit becomes evident — it serves as a crucial platform for translating research into action, aiming to empower and elevate the African descent business community toward positive impact and sustainable growth.”

With a diverse group of new and experienced entrepreneurs ready to gain an impactful experience, the summit showcases a commitment to values and systems that will shape a meaningful and impactful event for all participants.
