Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women Tanya Fir and Minister of Advanced Education Rajan Sawhney issued the following statement recognizing International Day of Women and Girls in Science:

“On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we recognize the important contributions of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and celebrate the progress women have made in these traditionally male-dominated fields.

“Women working in science, technology, engineering and mathematics make the extraordinary possible, solving real-world problems and making a meaningful impact on our everyday lives. And when girls can see women excelling in these careers, it reminds them that their own dreams are possible.

“Through the Women in STEM Scholarship, our government is creating opportunities for women to pursue education and careers in fields where their gender is underrepresented.

“Supporting more women to make strides in these fields not only enhances their communities but creates a brighter and more promising future for all Albertans. When women can fully participate in our economy, our province thrives.”

– Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women

“There is a world of opportunity in Alberta for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, I congratulate those who are embracing these opportunities, and I encourage women and girls throughout Alberta to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics career options that they may not have considered up to now.

“Tomorrow’s workforce will need a diversity of skills, experience and leadership, qualities that women in Alberta have in abundance.”

Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Advanced Education
