For their actions supporting strong, diverse and inclusive communities, 35 Albertans were celebrated at the Alberta Immigrant Impact Awards.

Formerly known as the Alberta Newcomer Recognition Awards, the program has been renamed the Alberta Immigrant Impact Awards to better reflect its mission of honoring the contributions of immigrants to the province. These awards recognize foreign-born Albertans who have made significant social, economic, and cultural impacts.

After a call for nominations in May, Albertans submitted the names of exceptional immigrants from diverse backgrounds who have played a role in making Alberta a better place to live. The awards celebrate their dedication to enhancing the province in various ways.

“My heartfelt congratulations to each of the nominees and award recipients. I applaud your commitment to improving Alberta and supporting fellow citizens. Your efforts inspire all of us, and your contributions are truly appreciated,” said Muhammad Yaseen, Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism.

Recipients of the Alberta Immigrant Impact Awards have made valuable contributions across Alberta, from career and academic accomplishments to leadership in rural communities. To qualify, nominees must be foreign-born but now permanent residents or Canadian citizens.

Régine King, a recipient of the award, shared her gratitude: “It is a great honor to receive an Alberta Immigrant Impact Award. Alberta is my home where I live, work, play, and build community. Immigrants bring social capital that strengthens our shared future. I’m grateful for the opportunities to contribute at the University of Calgary and in the community. This recognition motivates me and others to work for the common good of our province and country. I am committed to helping other immigrants find their place.”

First presented in 2022, the Alberta Immigrant Impact Awards reflect the government’s commitment to fostering diversity and multiculturalism.
