Founders Ball 2024 | When African Women Talk
At When African Women Talk, they understand the profound importance of representation, particularly for Black women and girls. This year’s theme resonates deeply with their mission to empower and uplift the voices of Black women within their communities.
Representation shapes how individuals perceive themselves and their potential in the world. When Black women are supported and celebrated, they gain the opportunity to share their unique stories and perspectives. This is essential in dismantling stereotypes and fostering a more inclusive narrative.
A reflection of their commitment to this cause was the recent Founders Ball, where they proudly celebrated Funke Smith, a trailblazer in the community, as the WAWT Woman of the Year 2024. They also recognized the remarkable nominees and recipients of the Her Legacy Awards. This event highlighted the achievements of extraordinary Black women living in Alberta and showcased their contributions to both the community and the Canadian economy. Initiatives like these not only honor individual successes but also emphasize the importance of representation and empowerment for all.
Their principles of sisterhood, solidarity, and mutual support are at the core of their work. By cultivating a community where Black women can share their achievements, support one another through challenges, and advocate for societal change, they contribute to a brighter future for all women and girls.
This year’s United Nations theme, “Girls’ Vision for the Future,” aligns perfectly with their commitment to nurturing the dreams and aspirations of young girls. Through mentorship and community support, they aim to cultivate the next generation of empowered Black women who will break barriers and advocate for equity, justice, and change.
Together, they continue to amplify diverse voices, celebrate achievements, and build a more equitable future where all women and girls are supported, valued, and empowered.
