Subsequent to PricewaterhouseCoopers, he spent the next ten years in the banking industry as Senior Vice President of Support Services, overseeing human resources, customer services, branch development, facility management, training & development, and corporate real estate departments.

New President Elected to Lead Nigerian Canadian Association of Edmonton

Edmonton, AB – The Nigerian Canadian Association of Edmonton (NCAE) is pleased to announce the election of a new executive board, following a successful general election held on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Dr. Chris Chukwuma has been elected as the President of the Association and will serve a two-year term leading a dynamic team committed to community advancement and empowerment.

Dr. Chukwuma succeeds Ms. Funke Olokude, who is stepping down to pursue a role in municipal governance as a candidate for Edmonton City Council, representing the Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi ward. The NCAE extends its deep gratitude to Ms. Olokude and her executive team for their dedicated service and impactful leadership.

“I am humbled and honoured by the opportunity to serve our community in this capacity,” said Dr. Chukwuma. “We are building on the strong foundation laid by the previous leadership and striving to move our community forward through unity, advocacy, and resilience.”

Dr. Chukwuma acknowledged both the successes and the continuing challenges facing members of the Nigerian community in Edmonton, including barriers related to social justice, health equity, and economic participation. He emphasized the need for a collective approach to address these issues and called on individuals, ethnic and professional organizations to join hands in building a vibrant, inclusive community.

“Our people are known for their intelligence, hard work, and ‘can-do’ spirit. These values will continue to drive our mission to build a stronger, more connected Nigerian Canadian community in Edmonton and surrounding areas,” he stated.

The new board is committed to engaging community members and partners across all sectors to develop sustainable solutions and advocate for a more equitable society.

A little bit about Chris Chukwuma

Dr. Chris Chukwuma is a management consultant specializing in change management, organizational strategy, leadership development and personal development training. He spent his early career years in Price Waterhouse-cum-PricewaterhouseCoopers as a management consultant after short stints in journalism and advertising. Subsequent to PricewaterhouseCoopers, he spent the next ten years in the banking industry as Senior Vice President of Support Services, overseeing human resources, customer services, branch development, facility management, training & development, and corporate real estate departments.

Dr. Chukwuma is a certified leadership coach, speaker, and trainer who has delivered extensive training in Nigeria, the UAE, Ghana, the United States, and Canada on leadership & management, human resources, facility management, customer services, personal development, organizational strategy, business strategy, and various soft skills. He holds a Ph.D. in organizational leadership and has been a management consultant and trainer for over 25 years.

Dr. Chukwuma is the author of the eBook titled “ The Secret of Your Future: Is Hidden in Your Daily Routine.” He is a contributing author to the book “Values-Based Followership” and has written articles for academic and professional journals. His writings are focused on leader development, follower development, cross-cultural intelligence, personal development, soft skills development, life success strategies, and the normalization of ACB communities in Canada. He is passionate about community development and has been involved in seeking practical solutions to the ACB health inequities in Alberta, aimed at helping people unlock their full potential and live a life of purpose and intention.

Currently the president of the Nigerian Canadian Association of Edmonton (NCAE), the Leduc resident earlier served as the Communications Director of the Association from April 2023 until his election as president in June 2025. Since relocating from Ontario in 2021, Dr. Chukwuma has served on the boards of Mountain Springs Ministry, Victory House Ministry, Bredin Centre for Career Development, and the Edmonton Igbo Language School
