Alberta’s government is now accepting applications for the 2026–27 Youth Suicide Prevention Grant program, a $2 million investment aimed at strengthening supports for at-risk youth and expanding access to essential services—particularly in rural and Indigenous communities.
This initiative reflects a continued commitment to preventing youth suicide through community-led, culturally responsive programs that improve access to care and build meaningful connections for young people across the province.
Investing in Community-Based Solutions
Launched four years ago, the Youth Suicide Prevention Grant program has already made a measurable impact:
- Funded 30+ community-based projects
- Connected over 5,000 youth to mental health supports and resources
The program focuses on early intervention, helping young people access support before they reach a crisis point.
Supporting Youth Through Connection and Care
Funded projects have delivered a wide range of initiatives designed to support youth mental well-being, including:
- Free access to team sports that integrate mental health and emotional development
- Safe, inclusive “teen nights” that foster belonging and social connection
- Programs that strengthen cultural identity for children, youth, and families
These approaches recognize that mental health is deeply connected to community, identity, and belonging.
A Broader Commitment to Youth Mental Health
This program builds on Alberta’s wider efforts to create a more responsive and accessible mental health system for young people. It emphasizes prevention, resilience, and community-based care as key pillars of long-term well-being.
Support is always available. Albertans can connect to local services through 211 Alberta, or reach immediate help through the 988 Suicide Crisis Helpline, available 24/7 by call or text.
