2025 Edmonton City Council Swearing-In Ceremony

Edmonton’s Mayor and 12 City Councillors will officially take their oaths of office this week, marking the beginning of the 2025–2029 municipal council term.

The Swearing-In Ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, with media setup beginning at 1 p.m. and the formal program starting at 1:30 p.m. The event will be held on the mezzanine level near the staircase in City Hall’s City Room.

The ceremony will include a formal program featuring performances and the administration of oaths and affirmations by The Honourable Ritu Khullar, Chief Justice of Alberta. Following the swearing-in, an inaugural Council meeting will be held in Council Chambers. Andrew Knack, the new Mayor has spent his week getting to know his council members.

Members of the media will have an opportunity to speak with the Mayor and Councillors as they leave Council Chambers at the conclusion of the meeting. The event will also be livestreamed for the public to watch online.

This ceremony marks the official start of a new term of civic leadership in Edmonton, setting the stage for four years of municipal governance and decision-making.

On the agenda would be issues, Edmontonians brought to the surface: bike lanes, property taxes, homelessness, infills etc.
