Edmonton, Alberta – October 29, 2025

Edmonton has a new mayor. Yesterday, Andrew Knack was officially sworn in as the city’s 37th Mayor in a heartfelt ceremony at City Hall. The event, filled with optimism and unity, was presided over by Chief Justice of Alberta, the Honourable Ritu Khullar, and included a special blessing by Dr. Jerry Saddleback.

Standing before friends, family, council members, and residents, Mayor Knack reflected on the deep privilege of public service. He reminded the audience that only 242 people have ever served on Edmonton’s city council, underscoring the responsibility that comes with leadership.

In his inaugural speech, Mayor Knack spoke about collaboration, transparency, and shared vision. “Leadership isn’t about having all the answers,” he said. “It’s about creating the conditions for good answers to emerge. Behind every door is someone’s home, business, or hope for a better life. Let’s listen, learn, and lead together.”

The new mayor emphasized that affordability, community safety, and responsible growth will remain top priorities for his council. He also promised to lead with openness and honesty. “A stronger Edmonton is only possible with trust,” Knack said. “Whether you build, teach, drive, fix, care, serve, or create — you are the strength of this city.”

Following the swearing-in, council held its inaugural meeting. Over the next few days, orientation sessions will take place as the new team begins its work. Mayor Knack is also scheduled to meet with provincial and federal leaders, as well as regional partners, to discuss shared priorities for Edmonton’s future.

It was a day filled with pride, promise, and hope — a reminder that Edmonton’s story continues to be written by everyone who calls this city home.
