Apply Now: 2026–2027 Indigenous Artist-in-Residence Program

The City of Edmonton is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 Indigenous Artist-in-Residence Program, an opportunity for Indigenous artists to develop new work while engaging with the community through public programming.

Program Overview

This residency is open to Indigenous artists working across a wide range of disciplines, including:

  • Traditional and contemporary Indigenous arts
  • Fine craft
  • Media arts
  • Music and performing arts
  • Visual arts
  • Literary arts

The selected artist will create a new body of work during the residency and present it through a final public showcase. The program also provides opportunities to contribute to community-based and civic programming.

What the Residency Offers

  • Paid, part-time residency with total compensation of $36,000
  • Dedicated workspace provided by the City
  • Opportunities to engage with the public and share artistic practice
  • A one-year residency designed to support creative development

Participants are expected to commit a minimum of 20 hours per week over the course of the residency. The official start date and workspace location will be confirmed with the selected artist.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be Indigenous artists (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit)
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be able to commit to the program requirements and schedule
