More Than $16 Million Available to Support Indigenous-Led Communities

Indigenous communities and organizations across Alberta can now access more than $16 million in funding to support projects that reflect local priorities and create meaningful, long-term benefits for their communities.

The funding, available through several Indigenous Relations grant programs, will support Indigenous-led initiatives focused on community safety, youth programming, language revitalization, cultural preservation, economic development, and community capacity building.

The investment is being delivered through three key funding streams: the Community Support Fund (CSF), the Indigenous Reconciliation Initiative (IRI), and the Aboriginal Business Investment Fund (ABIF). Together, these programs aim to strengthen communities, enhance services, and create opportunities for sustainable growth.

Minister of Indigenous Relations Rajan Sawhney emphasized the importance of supporting community-led solutions and investing in initiatives that reflect the needs and priorities of Indigenous communities.

Programs funded through these initiatives are designed to create safer spaces, strengthen Indigenous languages and cultures, and support future generations through projects led by the communities themselves.

Community organizations have also highlighted the impact this support can have. Leaders say funding can help address ongoing challenges, strengthen cultural connections, and build resilience through programs that support emotional, spiritual, physical, and community well-being.

Past projects funded through these programs demonstrate how Indigenous communities across Alberta are creating innovative solutions and partnerships that promote community wellness and long-term success.

Funding Available Through Three Programs

Community Support Fund (CSF)

Provides approximately $4 million annually to support Indigenous-led initiatives focused on preventing violence and improving safety and economic security for Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit+ people.

Indigenous Reconciliation Initiative (IRI)

Provides nearly $4 million annually for Indigenous-led cultural and economic initiatives, including language revitalization, arts and culture programming, and community-driven economic development projects.

Aboriginal Business Investment Fund (ABIF)

Provides $8.3 million in grant funding to support Indigenous community-owned businesses through investments that create employment opportunities and encourage long-term economic sustainability.

By investing in Indigenous-led solutions and local priorities, Alberta continues to support stronger communities and create pathways for lasting social, cultural, and economic impact.
