Apply for the Black History Month Initiative Fund
The 2025 Black History Month Initiative Fund is now accepting applications from Black-led and Black-serving organizations in Edmonton. This fund supports projects that celebrate, empower, and uplift Black communities during Black History Month in February.
Benefits of Applying:
- Funding to support your Black History Month project or event.
- Recognition for your organization’s role in uplifting the Black community.
- An opportunity to make a lasting impact during Black History Month.
Submit your application by January 6, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. (MST). Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submissions are encouraged. Selected organizations will be notified via email.
About the Black History Month Initiative:
This initiative is a partnership between Africa Centre, the City of Edmonton, Edmonton Heritage Council (EHC), and Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF). It aims to provide funding for Black-led, community-serving organizations to create events and initiatives specifically for Black History Month in February. Building on previous funds, this initiative amplifies voices and stories that celebrate the legacy, resilience, and contributions of Black communities in Alberta.

The Edmonton Community Foundation offers BIPOC grants to support initiatives led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities. The 2025 grant program will move to an annual summer deadline (exact date TBD). Applications will be reviewed by an external volunteer committee. For more details, visit their website.
