All Africa Soccer Tournament and Festival Brings Together Over 800 Athletes for a Celebration of Sport and Culture
EDMONTON — The energy is building as the All Africa Soccer Tournament and Festival returns for its 16th annual celebration this Canada Day long weekend! From June 27 to 29, M.E. LaZerte Sports Field and surrounding grounds will come alive with vibrant cultural festivities and thrilling soccer action as over 800 athletes from more than 20 African nations compete in Masters, Women’s, Men’s, and Youth divisions.
A staple in Edmonton’s summer calendar, this free, family-friendly event draws over 2,000 spectators each year and is a joyful showcase of African culture, community pride, and athletic excellence. Guests can expect exciting matches, live entertainment, delicious food, market stalls, kids’ activities, and interactive cultural displays.
“With over 800 athletes taking part this year, this event is more than just a soccer tournament—it’s a celebration of identity, community, and togetherness,” says Sam Juru, Executive Director of Africa Centre. “It aligns with our mission to create inclusive spaces where people of African descent feel empowered and celebrated.”
“What started as a small idea has grown into something truly special,” adds Dominic Sithole, co-founder of the event. “Each summer, this becomes a place where we gather, uplift our youth, and honour the richness of our diverse cultures.”
