Married and Still Lonely – An hour with the Akindeles.
They are a power couple based in Edmonton but international in their reach. They are passionate about equipping Christians with the tools they need to enjoy their marriages. Pastors Bode and Kemi spent an hour with Tee discussing why some experience loneliness in marriage. They took their time to explain how it has become that the Bible and its principles is missing in relationships and homes.
The conversation focused on the lack of communication in homes and a lack of understanding of Biblical patterns. The lack of these principles is ruining the fabric of marriages. Dr. Akindele teaches that the Bible enjoins the husband to love his wife. This is what he must do first. First, he must love his wife, the atmosphere is then conducive for the woman to submit. But, the burden lies on the husband to love his wife. A man who loves his wife wont beat her up, will come to her help with his family members, will respect her and dwell with her according to knowledge.
The conversation moved on to examine the impact of culture in marriages. The problem here is that whilst culture is a great construct, many people use culture to wreck their homes and families. Dr. Akindele argues that no culture can stand above the word of the Lord. The Bible must always take precedence. This is heart of the problem. Couples who know what the Bible teaches about marriage are unable to apply it to their lives. Some couples do not even make the Bible a priority hence they suffer.
