The Alberta government has appointed two people as the province’s first-ever hate crimes community liaisons.

The Alberta government has appointed Cecilia Mzvondiwa and Landon Turlock as the province’s first-ever hate crimes community liaisons.

They will work directly with cultural communities most targeted by hate and bias-motivated crimes. The two liaisons will recommend to the government how to develop and implement a coordinated and comprehensive strategy to prevent these crimes and best support victims.

Their mandate is to work directly with cultural communities most targeted by hate and bias-motivated crimes.

Together, in collaboration with community members, they will recommend to the Alberta government how to develop and implement a coordinated and comprehensive strategy to prevent these crimes and best support people victimized by hate crimes and incidents.

They plan to begin more fulsome community engagement later this year to work to prevent and respond to hate crimes and incidents in Alberta while supporting people victimized by these acts.

They would like to invite you to join them for a virtual “coffee” chat to talk about their mandate and what they are about.
