The HERConnect Initiative is an innovative program launched by the Ladies in the Family Foundation (LIFF) in partnership with the Alberta Black Therapist Network (ABTN) and Health Research Partners (HRP), with generous support from the City of Calgary’s Community Safety Investment Framework. This initiative is dedicated to offering free mental health support and crisis management services, particularly to underserved populations.

HERConnect is designed with a deep understanding of the challenges faced by women of African descent and other marginalized groups. By focusing on culturally sensitive and trauma-informed care, the initiative ensures that the mental health services provided are not only accessible but also tailored to meet the unique needs of these communities. The goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where individuals can seek help without the fear of stigma or financial barriers.

The initiative’s collaboration with ABTN and HRP brings together expertise from diverse fields, ensuring that the services offered are comprehensive and grounded in the latest research. This partnership allows HERConnect to deliver high-quality mental health care that resonates with the lived experiences of the community it serves.

Moreover, HERConnect underscores the power of collaboration between community organizations and municipal support in addressing vital social issues. By removing barriers to mental health care, such as cost and cultural insensitivity, the initiative is making significant strides in improving the well-being of marginalized individuals in Calgary.

In essence, the HERConnect Initiative is more than just a service; it is a lifeline for those in need of mental health support. By offering free, accessible, and culturally appropriate care, it is transforming lives and fostering a more inclusive approach to mental health in the community.
