Edmonton Mayoral Candidate Forum Recap

Spread the love

Yesterday, we hosted the Mayoral Candidate Forum 2025. The  event hosted virtually by Ladies Corner and Miss Purple Media. This was a landmark event in the municipal campaign season as all nine mayoral candidates participated, giving Edmontonians a rare opportunity to hear directly from those hoping to lead the city.

We  invited Councillor  Tim Cartmell, Abdul Malik Chukwudi, Councillor Andrew Knack, Vanessa Denman, Micheal Walters, Omar Mohammed, Olney Tugwell, Rahim Jaffer and Andy Andrzej Gudanowski,  to the forum on August 17th.

Over the course of the two-hour virtual event, the conversation was lively, candid, and deeply rooted in the issues that matter most to Edmontonians.

Key Themes Discussed

  • City Council & Public Disconnect – Candidates spoke about rebuilding trust between city council and residents, ensuring decisions reflect the voices of the people.

  • Bike Lanes – The controversial expansion of bike lanes drew debate around cost, accessibility, and balancing transportation needs across the city.

  • In-Fills & Housing – Candidates addressed Edmonton’s growth and the impact of in-fill projects, weighing affordability against neighborhood character.

  • Property Taxes & Spending – Fiscal responsibility was a strong focus, with candidates outlining how they would manage rising costs and prioritize city spending.

  • Affordability – With the cost of living continuing to challenge residents, candidates emphasized strategies to make Edmonton more affordable for families, seniors, and newcomers.

Community Engagement

The forum gave residents a rare chance to hear directly from every candidate in one space. Voters have a chance to choose more of the same or a fresh start for Edmonton.  The respectful exchanges and honest discussion highlighted the diverse perspectives shaping this mayoral race.
