Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a Clinical Psychologist by training and a community developer by choice, who aspires to contribute to the betterment of the social fabric around me, be it cosmopolitan Edmonton or Rural Pakistan. With my young family, I immigrated to Canada and got involved with the community of Edmonton. As a natural people person, I excelled in supporting a program catering to immigrant women to aid their assimilation into the Canadian fabric.

I have mentored over 700 new immigrants to the Edmonton
region through the process. I was nominated for the Global Women Award for 2021 and the 2020 Tällberg/Eliasson Global Leadership Award. Currently, I have been honoured to serve the community in various capacities.

Sitting on the Canadian Civil Society board, we advocate for human rights. Working with a women’s shelter and being involved in a charity organization has given me the honour of skill generation and poverty alleviation. In local and cultural organizations, I have been involved in mental health advocacy, women empowerment, and community building, creating the foundation for
an empowered young generation to take over from us.

My mission is to leave a better world for our children than the one we inherited from our parents. I will do everything in my power to achieve this. This ambition has led me to serve on different boards. It keeps me motivated to get involved in the community by occupying positions where I can advocate and strive to make positive changes. My moral compass directs me to the principles of equity and equality.

Why are you running?

As a mental health professional, a mother of 3 and an active community volunteer, I hear daily from fellow Albertans about their hopes, aspirations, and concerns. I hear from many of them about the challenges they face in this economy. As a mother of three kids, I can relate to many parents’ hopes and fears about their children’s futures.

The disastrous changes made to the Alberta curriculum need to be reversed and
provide a safe place to tour kids. We must invest in our schools and universities because education is the fundamental pillar of any civilized and robust society. We need to build more schools in our southwest area because of the growing population.

Families in South Edmonton urgently need a hospital, and they need one that is
accountable to patients and taxpayers. We must get our hospital back on the schedule laid down by the NDP government and commit to building it as a fully public project.

Last month, when I was door-knocking, a lady with a terminal illness told me that she is taken to the Leduc hospital every time she calls for an ambulance. It’s been 32 years since the Grey Nuns were built, and it’s straining under the population growth we’ve seen since then.

Families struggle to make ends meet as they face the rising cost of electricity, tuition fees, car insurance, property tax, and income tax. Albertans want their
government working to address the issues that are important to them, our healthcare system recovering, and a real plan to manage jobs and the soaring cost of living.

It is time for a positive change in Alberta, and Edmonton South West is a crucial
seat we need to flip. This is why I am running for the nomination to be your NDP candidate in Edmonton South West. Together, we can work towards a diversified economy that lifts everyone, invests in our health care, education and the environment, and gives our future generation the tools they need to be the leaders of tomorrow.

This race is very polarized; what would you do to bring maturity to the race?

I have not seen any polarizations in this race; there are various candidates seeking nominations to better our province. It is essential to have strong representation and easy access to an elected official. I will always remain present and accessible to any of my constituents; I put my cell number on my poster. I promise to be a sincere, strong, consistent, and accessible voice for the constituents of South West Edmonton. I will involve constituents and make decisions with their guidelines and suggestions on any issues. I am open to any opinion or advice as I am a people person. As a constituency representative, I will always be at the frontline, fighting for them.
