Getting to Know Chand Gul
Chand Gul joined us on Big Conversations this weekend. Gul is seeking the Alberta NDP nomination for Edmonton South-West.
Big Conversations is a monthly show where we have more in-depth conversations around women, politics, finances, health, city council and pretty much anything else that catches our fancy.
Chand Gul is a clinical psychologist by training and a community developer by choice.
“She aspires to contribute to the betterment of the social fabric around herself, be it cosmopolitan Edmonton or rural Pakistan”.
“With her young family, she immigrated to Canada and got involved with the community of Edmonton”.
As a natural people person, she excelled in supporting a program catering specifically to immigrant women, to aid their assimilation into the Canadian fabric.
“Through the process, she has mentored over 700 new immigrants to the Edmonton region. She was nominated for the Global Women Award for 2021, as well as the 2020 Tällberg/Eliasson Global Leadership Prize. Currently she is honoured to serve the community in various capacities”.
Sitting on the board of Canadian for Civil Society, she advocates for human rights, working with a women shelter and being involved in a charity organization has given her the honour of skill generation and poverty alleviation.
In local and cultural organizations, she has been involved in mental health
advocacy, women empowerment, and community building, creating the foundation for an empowered young generation.
Her mission is to leave a better world for our children than the one we inherited from our parents. She will do everything in her power to achieve this.
This ambition has led her to serve on different boards and keeps her motivated to get involved in the community by occupying positions where she can advocate and strive to make positive changes.
Her moral compass directs her with the principles of equity and equality.
