Africa Centre: Creating Lasting Impact in Alberta
The Africa Centre is proud of its significant and growing impact on the Black and African communities across Alberta. Through targeted programs, advocacy efforts, and community engagement, the Centre is empowering individuals, fostering resilience, and driving systemic change that benefits not only the African diaspora but the broader society.
One of the Centre’s most notable areas of impact is its role as a voice for Black Albertans, advocating for policies that address systemic inequities in healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. By working closely with government bodies and community leaders, the Africa Centre ensures that the needs and aspirations of Black communities are not only heard but actively addressed.
Health programs are a key part of this impact. The Centre has launched initiatives such as the Autism Program, which provides culturally sensitive support to Black families, and is preparing to introduce a Health Literacy Program in collaboration with Black doctors. These programs are designed to tackle health disparities, improve access to care, and raise awareness around critical health issues within the community.
Youth engagement is another cornerstone of the Centre’s impact. Programs like UJIMA Fellowship and Youth Resilience Building equip young people with the tools they need to lead and succeed. By offering mentorship, leadership training, and recreational activities, the Centre is shaping the next generation of leaders who will continue to uplift their communities.
Additionally, the Centre’s focus on economic empowerment through capacity-building programs, such as the Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative (SBCCI), enhances financial stability and business growth within the Black community.
The Africa Centre is not just making an immediate difference—it is creating long-lasting change, building a foundation for a stronger, more inclusive Alberta.
