Nominate a Woman a Day with Katie Stanners | Top 100 Women in Canada
A couple of weeks ago, we were featured on A Woman A Day Yeg. Here is the audio: https://www.iheartradio.ca/virginradio/edmonton/audio/a-woman-a-day-tee-adeyemo-1.15399401?mode=Article
It was a beautiful feeling to be seen. We felt visible and appreciated. Today, it is a pleasure to introduce the woman behind the wonderful idea of supporting a yeg woman a day.
Achieving this feat requires discipline and organisation. Her name is Katie Stanners. She is a morning show/host on 104.9 Virgin Radio. She took some time to talk to LCCMEDIA.
Why is it important to honour women like you do on your Instagram page?
I think there is a lot of negativity out there in social media land. Feels like a lot of people competing with each other and I wanted to be apart of the woman a day project because I wanted to spread positivity and inspire others. Creating a network and community of inspirational women doing great things in our community. A place where we can celebrate our victories together, champion each other and lift each other up. A network of amazing women that supports each other. Women supporting women is a beautiful thing. I also am a huge believer in supporting local businesses so it’s a great way to showcase some female run companies/businesses in our area.
When did you start and did you start?
I launched woman a day yeg on Monday, March 2nd 2020 leading up to International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8th. Not knowing we were going to be shut down due to a pandemic. I wasn’t even sure the project would take off but it’s been such a blessing to have a platform that I can help support local businesses during this time.
Whose profile blew you away the most?
Honestly it is so impossible for me to answer this question. I am blown away and inspired daily by each and every woman that I feature. So many amazing stories of overcoming obstacles and preserving and chasing dreams. From health care workers, entrepreneurs, stay at home moms. Each and every one of them just has such a different unique story. I’m so grateful to be involved in telling their journey.

I don’t know if I’ve ever been asked this question before but a poem I love to tell me daughter is one from Dr. Seuss – Oh the places you’ll go.
“You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So… get on your way!”
