What Is PACE? – Principled Accountable Coalition for Edmonton
PACE (Principled Accountable Coalition for Edmonton) is Edmonton’s first officially registered municipal political party, launched in January 2025 following recent provincial changes allowing party affiliation in city elections. It emerged from the merger of the Principled Accountable Coalition and TAPYeg, aiming to bring a fresh, team‑based approach to City Council.
PACE’s Core Principles
PACE’s name reflects its guiding values:
Principled – Building leadership grounded in integrity and consistency.
Accountable – Ensuring decision‑makers listen to and act on citizen concerns.
Value for Taxes – Managing public funds responsibly, focusing on fiscal discipline.
Safety & Security – Promoting community-level safety and responsive solutions.
Open for Business – Encouraging innovation and supporting local economic growth.
First Things First – Prioritizing Core municipal services over distractions.
How It Works
- Party Slate: PACE is recruiting a slate of Council candidates aligned with its values and community-focused approach.
- Grassroots Engagement: Through “PACESETTER” ward associations, volunteers and residents directly influence candidate selection, campaigning, and engagement efforts.
- Focus on Reform: The party aims to address key issues like high taxes, zoning changes, and budget overruns by offering practical, community-vetted solutions.
Path to Election Day
- January 2025: PACE achieved official municipal party status via a petition of 1,200+ signatures, marking a milestone in Edmonton politics.
- Ongoing: Candidate nominations and active campaigning are underway, supported by PACESETTERs.
- October 20, 2025: PACE candidates will appear on the ballot, ready to offer Edmonton voters a principled, accountable alternative.
Why It Matters
- New Model: Introducing party politics at the municipal level promotes coherent platforms, accountability, and collective governance—offering an alternative to the traditional independent‑councillor approach.
- Community Hub: PACE leverages local ward associations to ensure candidate selection and policy development reflect resident input.
- Focused Approach: Their emphasis on core principles—like fiscal restraint, public safety, and business friendliness—offers clarity amid complex urban issues.
