Breaking Down the 2025 Edmonton Election Results: Key Takeaways
In the wake of the recent Edmonton municipal election, the results show that all but one incumbent city councillor will be returning to council. The mayoral race has also been settled, with Andrew Knack declared the winner.
Council race outcomes
Here are the winners in each of the 12 wards:
Ward Anirniq: Incumbent Erin Rutherford has secured a second term. She was first elected in 2021.
Ward Dene: Incumbent Aaron Paquette has been re-elected for a third term.
Ward Ipiihkoohkanipiaohtsi: A change here — newcomer Jon Morgan defeated incumbent Jennifer Rice.
Ward Karhiio: Incumbent Keren Tang will serve another term.
Ward Métis: Incumbent Ashley Salvador returns for a second term.
Ward Nakota Isga: With no incumbent running, newcomer Reed Clarke has been elected.
Ward O-day’min: Incumbent Anne Stevenson has been re-elected for a second term.
Ward papastew: Incumbent Michael Janz is staying on.
Ward pihêsiwin: councillor-elect Michael Elliott will fill the seat.
Ward sipiwiyiniwak: After a very tight election and a recount, newcomer Thu Parmar has been declared winner. Darrell Friesen was decla’human ored winner but Edmonton Election ‘confirmed a human error in the recording of counted votes’.
Ward Sspomitapi: Incumbent Jo‑Anne Wright will serve another term.
Ward tastawiyiniwak: Incumbent Karen Principe (running under the Better Edmonton banner) has won re-election.
Voter turnout & other notes
Of the 679,830 eligible voters in Edmonton, 205,758 cast ballots — a turnout of 30.27 %.
Advance voting (five days earlier) saw 41,340 residents vote.
The results listed here are unofficial; the official results will be released no later than noon on Friday, Oct. 24.
