Government of Canada announces support for Black entrepreneurs in Saskatchewan
PrairiesCan Invests $780,000 to Support Black Entrepreneurs in Saskatchewan
March 26, 2026 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Black entrepreneurs across the Prairies continue to face barriers to accessing financing, mentorship, and business networks. A new federal investment aims to help address these challenges and create stronger pathways for Black business owners to grow and succeed.
Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan) has announced an investment of $780,000 to support the Saskatoon Black Business Network (SBBN) in delivering a Black Entrepreneurship Advancement Program in Saskatchewan. The funding will support business development initiatives over the next five years.
The investment will help SBBN organize initiatives such as the Black Business Expo, pitch competitions, mentorship opportunities, and networking events designed to support Black entrepreneurs at different stages of their business journey.
The Black Business Expo, now in its third year, provides a platform for Black-owned businesses to showcase their products and services, connect with potential partners, and access resources to help expand their operations. The event typically features more than 120 exhibitors and attracts over 700 participants.
As part of the program, SBBN will also host quarterly networking events in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, and North Battleford, along with virtual sessions to ensure broader access across the province.
Government officials noted that investments in Black-led organizations help strengthen local economies while creating more inclusive opportunities for entrepreneurs. The initiative is part of the federal Black Entrepreneurship Program, which aims to address systemic barriers and improve access to capital, training, and business supports.
SBBN leadership described the funding as an important step toward advancing equity and expanding opportunities for Black entrepreneurs in Saskatchewan. The organization says the investment will help entrepreneurs scale their businesses, access new markets, and strengthen community economic development.
The mentorship component of the program is expected to support up to 60 entrepreneurs over the next five years. The Black Entrepreneurship Program Ecosystem Fund will continue supporting approved projects until March 31, 2030.
