The Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Grant Program | Alberta News
The Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Grant Program is investing $1 million for community organizations to create projects that celebrate Albertaβs diversity and encourage Albertans to think and talk about anti-racism efforts.
Albertaβs Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Grant Program is intended to support community initiatives to increase cultural and cross-cultural awareness and to educate Albertans to prevent and address racism.
The program promotes education and awareness about multiculturalism and anti-racism. It is not intended to address systemic racism and the barriers that limit the full participation of Indigenous and racialized people in society, such as lack of affordable housing or barriers to accessing employment or healthcare.
Supporting community organizations empowers them to have a voice in determining solutions. Grants distributed through the program allow organizations to start conversations about multiculturalism and anti-racism through community-led initiatives.
Successful applications will support projects that improve understanding of Alberta’s diverse cultures, highlight the challenges people experiencing racism face and/or help all Albertans better understand and take action against racism.
Community groups are eligible to receive up to $30,000 to support these initiatives.
Applications will be accepted until Nov. 16 and are open to Alberta-based non-profit organizations, including multicultural and faith-based organizations, First Nations and Metis Settlements.
By launching this grant program, Albertaβs government continues to take action on multiculturalism and anti-racism by enabling cultural communities to share their experience and highlight their contributions to Alberta.
The provinceβsΒ Anti-Racism Action PlanΒ is a road map for meaningful action and outlines the governmentβs commitment to diversity. It includes the recentΒ Alberta Newcomer Recognition AwardsΒ to celebrate immigrantsβ successes, with recipients announced Sept. 21, andΒ public engagementΒ to gather input to address racism. Albertaβs Anti-Racism Advisory Council has played an important role in this work.
