Rhiannon Hoyle is the first woman to be elected to the riding of Edmonton-South and the first Black woman to be elected to the Alberta Legislature. She is also the Alberta NDP’s Advanced Education Critic. She joined LCCMedia’s Tee to take some questions on provincial politics. Originally founded as the Edmonton Mennonite Society for the Assistance of Newcomers, the organization later became known as the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers. This year, on May 6, 2024, coinciding with the organization’s anniversary, EMCN will transition to the Edmonton Newcomer Centre, often referred to simply as the Newcomer Centre. This milestone will be marked with the unveiling of a refreshed logo, symbolizing a new era of service and community support.
BBE is a self-funded initiative that promotes Black businesses, talents, and events in Edmonton, providing a showcase for what these enterprises offer to individuals, organizations, and the broader community. The platform not only aims to support these businesses but also enriches the entire Edmonton area.
