Edmonton Elects Andrew Knack as Mayor, Choosing a Vision for a Stronger City
EDMONTON, AB — In a decisive outcome, Edmontonians have elected Andrew Knack as their new Mayor, embracing his vision to build a stronger, more inclusive city for all. The results were officially confirmed a day after Election Day.
Speaking to supporters and volunteers at campaign headquarters, Knack expressed gratitude to the community and highlighted how integrity, passion, and the power of everyday people triumphed over big money and party politics.
“This victory is not mine alone. It belongs to the hundreds of volunteers who helped me connect with people from every walk of life, in every corner of our city. It belongs to the thousands of Edmontonians who put their trust in my vision for a stronger Edmonton. This is a triumph of grassroots work and integrity over partisan politics and deep-pocketed special interest groups,” said Knack.
Knack, a three-term city councillor, ran a five-month grassroots campaign centered on listening to Edmontonians. Through town halls, community events, and his now-famous “Mayorthon”—a 52-kilometre walk across the city where he met residents and business owners—he engaged directly with voters. His platform focused on practical solutions to pressing issues such as affordability, public safety, and homelessness, while committing to transparency and accountability. He was also the only mayoral candidate to fully disclose all campaign donations.
“Edmontonians said ‘yes’ to our commitments: making life more affordable through better public services and expanded housing options, improving public safety with evidence-based solutions, and taking real action on homelessness,” Knack stated. “They also sent a clear message that political parties and big corporate donors shouldn’t decide municipal elections.”
Knack’s comprehensive policy platform will guide his agenda over the next four years, with an immediate focus on working with provincial and federal governments to address addictions and homelessness.
The Mayor-elect also extended congratulations to his fellow mayoral candidates for their well-run campaigns and thanked outgoing Mayor Amarjeet Sohi for his years of public service and for laying the foundation for the next chapter in Edmonton’s growth.
