City of Edmonton Marks November as Family Violence Prevention Month
November 4, 2025
This November, the City of Edmonton stands united with community organizations, survivors, and advocates to mark Family Violence Prevention Month.
The month is a time to deepen awareness, promote compassion, and encourage every Edmontonian to take action toward safer homes and communities.
Family violence is not always visible. It can include emotional, psychological, sexual, and financial abuse, and it often occurs behind closed doors, affecting individuals across all ages, genders, and backgrounds. The consequences of such violence extend far beyond the moment of harm—impacting physical and mental health, self-worth, relationships, and even the ability to fully participate in community life.
By recognizing Family Violence Prevention Month, Edmonton reinforces its commitment to breaking the cycle of violence. This begins with listening to survivors, supporting families in crisis, and addressing the root causes that allow abuse to persist. Prevention means creating spaces where people feel safe to speak out, access help, and rebuild their lives without fear or shame.
Help is available around the clock. If you or someone you know is experiencing family violence, call the Family Violence Info Line at 310-1818 or 211 for local supports and services. In emergencies, always call 911.
To honour survivors and raise awareness across the city, the High Level Bridge will glow purple on November 28. The colour purple symbolizes courage, resilience, and solidarity with those who have been affected by family violence.
Together, Edmontonians can make a difference—by speaking up, reaching out, and helping to build a community where every person feels safe, valued, and free from harm.
