Black History Month Event 2026 with Nigerians
Our Stories. Our History. Our Heritage. What’s Your Story?
The Nigerian Canadian Association of Edmonton, in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria (Edmonton), invites you to join us for a meaningful Black History Month gathering on February 21, 2026.
Black History Month is more than a celebration. It is a time to reflect, to learn, to honour those who came before us, and to have honest conversations about where we are today and where we are going as a community.
This year’s event is centered around one powerful question: What’s your story?
What to Expect
The evening has been carefully designed to inform, engage, and bring people together in conversation.
We will begin with a documentary on Black Canadian history, highlighting stories that are often overlooked but deeply rooted in Canada’s past. It is important that we understand the foundation on which we stand.
We will also host a community conversation titled:
Navigating Safety as Black Canadians
A thoughtful discussion with a police officer, offering space for open dialogue about safety, understanding, and relationship-building within our community.
In addition, a panel discussion will explore:
Interrogating Black History
Together, we will examine the past, reflect on the present, and discuss how Black History Month can continue to serve and benefit our communities in the future. This is not just about remembering history — it is about understanding its impact and shaping what comes next.

Why This Matters
Black History Month provides an opportunity for connection across generations. It allows elders, youth, newcomers, and long-standing residents to share space, stories, and perspectives.
Our strength lies in our collective voice.
We invite community members, families, professionals, and young people to attend, participate, and contribute to the conversation.
Come ready to listen.
Come ready to learn.
Come ready to share your story.
