Sharif Haji has resigned as the Executive Director of Africa Centre.

Sharif Haji  played an important role in enhancing the reputation and impact of the Africa Centre during his tenure as Executive Director. It can be challenging to lead a non-profit organization, particularly one that focuses on promoting pan-African causes and values. But Haji worked tirelessly to improve the reputation, recognition and value proposition of Africa Centre to be one of the largest pan-African non-profit organizations in Canada.

In an email sent to members on Saturday, April 29th, Haji said:  “It is with a heavy heart that I announce my resignation as the Executive Director of the Africa Centre, effective May 1, 2023. After four years of dedicated service to the organization, I have decided to move on and pursue other opportunities where I will continue my community service in a different capacity”.

The email further acknowledged his gratitude and the power of collaboration with other organizations: “I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for your unwavering support and commitment to the Africa Centre’s mission. Your generosity, collaboration, and partnership have been instrumental in our success, and I am proud of the accomplishments we have achieved together”.

“During my tenure, we have grown tremendously in reputation, recognition, and expansion, becoming one of the largest black-led, black-focused organizations in the country. I am proud of the work we have done to advance our mission and to serve the community, and I know that the Africa Centre will continue to thrive and make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve”.

Haji is celebrated as a highly respected leader who has made significant contributions to the community. The fact that staff and colleagues from various organizations attended his send-off party yesterday and spoke about his leadership and the positive impact he had on the Centre and the community is a testament to his success.

Africa Centre went through a significant transformation under his leadership, from a less stable state to becoming a centre of excellence that offers a wide range of programs in areas such as business, mental health, youth, and seniors.  Haji is a visionary leader who was able to inspire his team and drive positive change. No doubt, he will do well in his future endeavours.

Haji is running as an Alberta NDP candidate in the riding of Edmonton Decore. Edmonton Decore is a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada. It is currently represented by NDP Member of the Legislative Assembly, Chris Nielsen.
