Tim Cartmell concedes
In a heartfelt message, Tim Cartmell expressed gratitude to family, campaign staff, volunteers, and supporters after an outcome that didn’t go as hoped.
The candidate began by acknowledging the unwavering support of his wife, Cathy, who has stood beside him not only through this campaign but for over four decades. “Running for office and serving as an elected official is challenging,” he shared.”
He also paid tribute to his children, recognizing the unique challenges faced by the families of political candidates. He described them as resilient, gracious, and full of humour, noting that they are now building their own futures in Edmonton — a source of deep pride for their parents.
Gratitude extended to the campaign’s volunteers, whose time, commitment, and faith were described as “the heartbeat of the campaign.” He credited much of the campaign’s growth to Alex, the campaign leader, who helped transform a small gathering around a borrowed boardroom table into a citywide movement.
The candidate also commended his fellow Better Edmonton team members — Caroline Matthews, Miaya Brady, Joti Buttar, Mike Elliott, Josh Doyle, Nicholas Rheubottom, Karen Principe, Darrell Friesen, Banisha Sandhu, Stephen Hammerschmidt, Reed Clarke, and Harmon Kandola — describing them as “smart, dedicated candidates whose love for this city has been inspiring.”
The projected winner of the mayoral election is Andre Knack. The voter turnout was low at 30.27%.
