Edmonton Visual Artist Munderu Kibugu at the Remedy Cafe | The Yeg Show

Spread the love

The principles of true art is not to portray but to evoke says Jerzy Kosinski. If this is true, Kibugi’s art is designed to evoke something from the depths of you.

He paints suffering as beauty and he ascribes his inspiration from black people and people of colour as his muse.

Munderu Kibugi is an Edmonton visual artist, thinker, creator, healer and historian. In so many ways, Munderu embodies all of these descriptives. In a world where art from black artists is generally not welcome by established galleries, Munderu’s spot to exhibit is the Remedy Cafe.

Munderu paints from our weaknesses to our resilience and you really need to be guided by his art to understand exactly what this means. Black artists need support was the clear message from the interview. We need to exist in more other spaces he said.

His exhibitions are at the Remedy Cafe in Edmonton till the end of July.
