Amal Mohamud is a first-generation Somali Canadian who is breaking barriers through her media work in Canada. Amal has worked with OMNI Alberta and AMI Accessible Media as an independent producer. She began her career volunteering for Shaw TV Edmonton’s community program in 2015. In recent years, Amal has developed her writing, producing, directing skills and has quickly become a voice of her generation, winning three community awards for highlighting the stories of marginalized communities and underrepresented voices in Canada.

She won Diversity Magazine’s AC Junior Achievement Award in 2019. Somali Women and Children Association awarded her the Community Service Recognition Award also in the same year and in 2020,  she won the Fil Fraser Award by the National Black Coalition Canada.
