Africa Centre is now accepting applications for the Ujima Fellowship Program Cohort Three of 2023. The deadline to apply is on Oct.22, 2023. The Fellowship begins during the first week of November.
PROGRAM SCOPE
Schedule
The program is structured into:
35 hours of in-class leadership training by the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT)
Three-month placement with a public service agency. The entire duration requires an average of 4-6 hours/month
20 hours of volunteer work
Participants receive
Dual certificate in Leadership Development from NAIT and Africa Centre upon completion
Niche Opportunities
Hands-on experience in the processes and structure of public service agencies
Networking and mentorship opportunities with sector leaders and professionals
Capacity building and knowledge of organizational strategies
Eligibility
Identify as Black
Age 18 to 35
Must be a resident in Edmonton or Calgary for the respective cohort
Currently enrolled or graduated from a post-secondary institution
Demonstrate volunteer experience within community initiatives, civic engagement and/or business experience
More about the Ujima Fellowship
The Ujima Fellowship is a leadership development program that addresses structural racism and inequity by creating opportunities for diverse representation within advisory or decision-making entities. The aim is to support young Black leaders between the ages of
18 to 35 who demonstrate a willingness to develop leadership skills and want to serve on advisory or policy-making platforms.
