In this episode, Tayo and her friend Kemi Ajayi have a very public conversation about office romance. It is common to hear gossip about colleagues sleeping with each other or about the office split which turned nasty. We all know what goes down at the office party, but whilst we are all doing Zoom, who is talking about what went down at the office party before the pandemic struck?
Tayo and Kemi went there. They talked about the pros and cons of dating someone from work. Kemi read some stats with us which buttered the point that most of us turn to our work for love. After all, we are at work for up to 8 hours a day, six or seven days a week depending on the type of work we do. Where else can we hook up?
Workplace romance is not an issue that impacts just a handful of rogue employees. According to the survey, produced by job site Vault.com, 58% of employees have engaged in a romantic relationship with a colleague. A surprising 72% of those over 50 years old have been romantically involved with a coworker. According to Forbes, apparently cheating on a partner with a colleague is relatively common. Although 19% of employees admitted to stepping out on their partner with a colleague at work, a surprising 44 % of employees have known colleagues who had affairs at work or on business trips. 64% of those who participated in office romance kept it secret and only 16% were comfortable enough to tell every one including their superiors about their relationship. Almost three in four would participate in an office romance if given the chance.
